The 60th National Award Winner The Good Road, cast and crew made a special appearance at a press conference in Ahmedabad this afternoon. Produced by National Film Development Corporation Ltd (NFDC), and directed by debut feature filmmaker Gyan Correa, The Good Road, is scheduled to release on July 19, in Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Baroda, and Gandhinagar, across PVR Cinemas, under the Director’s Rare banner.
The afternoon event saw the cast and crew, interact with the media, about interesting facts, incidents, and the experiences with many first timers having contributed to a National Award winning feature film. Producer of the film, Vikramjit Roy- General Manager, NFDC (National Film Development Corporation) talked about the journey of the film which started at NFDC’s Film Bazaar (an annual film market that alongside IFFI, in Goa, in November), and why NFDC decided to come on board to produce this film. He went on to add that NFDC, as part of its endeavor and mandate encourages talented and aspiring first time feature filmmakers, apart from supporting and promoting Indian Cinema in the domestic as well as the international markets.
Adding to this, the director of the film, Gyan Correa shared interesting facts about his idea of making the film in Gujarati, choosing Kutch landscapes as the location, unique experiences with the locals and tribes, and the joy of winning a National Award. Hridaynath Gharekhan, a well know personality, and a National Award winning documentary filmmaker himself, was seen at the event with the cast and crew of the film addressing the audience. He is known to have played a key role as the connecting link for the making of the film in Gujarat throughout the entire duration of the schedule. Also present at the event, music director, Rajat Dholakia, who contributed to many well known films in the past, narrated his intense month long search for the music, that would beautifully blend with the contemporary storyline and mystique landscapes of Kutch, which rightfully has been justified so. Shamjibhai (Pappu- truck driver), the protagonist in the film, and Priyank Upadhyay (Shaukat- helper) were the stars of the day, where both shared memorable experiences and the immense pride of being a National award Winning film. The highlight of the event was a surprising one indeed with, Mura Lala, the folk singer having sung a few lines for the audience, on request by the director, and the rest on the dais.
