Marking the important day of Tagore’s death anniversary on Thursday, August 08, 2013, Q announced that his upcoming film, Tasher Desh, based on the legendry’s contemporary play of the same name, will be released on 23rd August, in Kolkata across 10 screens. The event saw Q accompanied by the select cast and crew of the film having made their first public appearance together as a team at the esteemed and well-known art gallery, Akar Prakar, Kolkata, this afternoon.
An international co-production, Tasher Desh is produced by NFDC (National Film Development Corporation Ltd), Overdose Joint, AKFPL (Anurag Kashyap Films Pvt Ltd), Dream Digital Inc. and Entre Chien et Loup (Belgium).
The afternoon witnessed an interactive meet with Q and the select cast and crew of the film narrating the memorable journey during the 25 days of the making of Tasher Desh. Q highlighted the strong connect with Tagore’s original play and the staunch desire to make this film since his childhood days. He further explained that the unique yet unusual concept of the story coming from a rather predictable representation of Tagore was what intrigued and inspired him the most. Joyraj Bhattacharjee (Storyteller), Rii (Horotoni), Neel Adhikari (Music Producer), Dipankar Jojo Chaki (Sound), and Arijit Dutta (King and Priya Cinemas Founder), Celine Loop (Co-producer), each one of them eagerly cited their experiences as distinctive characters and role-play in the film. “This is a film about Ideas. About New Ideas. About Revolution. About Liberating Oneself”, added Q.
‘Tasher Desh’, a definitive quirky adaptation of Tagore’s edgy fantasy, brings together an eclectic mix of international music artists to collaborate on Tagore’s celebrated soundtrack, including Susheela Raman, Sam Mills, Anusheh, Asian Dub Foundation, Erik Truffaz, Moog Conspiracy and Tanmoy Bose produced by Miti and Neel Adhikari and Q. The film stars Joyraj Bhattacharjee, Rii, Soumyak Kanti De Biswas, Anubrata Basu, Tillotama Shome, Tinu Verghis, Imaad Shah and Maya Tideman amongst others.
Having made its World Premiere in competition at the Rome Film Festival 2012, and its North American Premiere at the Scarborough Film Festival, Toronto, 2013, the film made it to official selections at the Imagine: Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival and most recently at the London Indian Film Festival in 2013.
