Colonial Cousins bless Ruupa Raaman’s Krisnaruupa launch

Finally the wait is over. Composer-singer Ruupa Raaman’s debut album Krisnaruupa was launched in a grand affair in presence of musician-singers Hariharan, Lesle Lewis, Dr.Soma Ghosh, Subhankar Ghosh, Abu Malik, Aishwarya Majmudar, Aajay K Chauhan, actors Anil George and Buvnesh Shetty, artist Rakhi Baid, director Ashwini Sharma and her friends and friengels who contributed to this album and many more at Tanishq Showroom, Andheri (West).

Ruupa Raaman who has brought out over 200 classical albums, being the in the A&R department of EMI, has very interesting fare to offer in Krisnaruupa. Inspired by various forms of Krishna and blessed by the Krishna of Nathdwara temple, composer-singer Ruupa Raaman, brings to you the melodious album Krisnaruupa. One of the songs comprises of 108 names of the Lord among others.

Interestingly, Ruupa exercised the crowdfunding method to generate partial funds for the album, adding on friends and friengels as they call them contributing to make Krisnaruupa a success. Ruupa has managed to bring in over 2.5 lakh in hand, half the cost of her album, through Wishberry, a portal that helps generate crowdfunding for young talent waiting in the wings due to paucity of funds.

Krisnaruupa could be one of the pioneering classical albums to actually generate crowdfunding. Generally, young bands with contemporary music are known for looking for crowdfunding options.

For Ruupa, more than the funds, it is the chance of “taking more and more people forward on the journey,” "It is not easy today to bring out your own album, more so when it is devotional. We were lucky, we got over 56 people who walked by us on our journey and contributed to Krisnaruupa. I am fortunate that when our album comes out, there are people looking forward to it. Otherwise, an album always is one person's solo journey

Hariharan agreed, "her compositions have soul as she has taken her time over them." Added Lesle Lewis, "Ruupa's compositions touch your soul and will help many a soul heal." Added actor Anil George, "as a listener, I loved the songs. They touch you." Veteran vocalist Dr Soma Ghosh avered, "the compositions and renditions are such that they will touch Lord Krishna to come and hear the voice of today's Draupadi. With divine intervention, there will be a change in the mindset and the status of women." Touche!
