It was a moment to cherish for producer Deeya Singh when her mother Gunita Bajaj came out of chemotherapy after a surgery for breast cancer. Having been Deeya’s pillar of strength and the force that egged her to take up television production, Gunita Bajaj brought in her birthday in style at The Club, Andheri (W). Celebrity friends who showed up at the do included Shweta Tiwari, Ashish Choudhary, Ragini Khanna, Anu Ranjan, Saadia Siddiqui, Shenaz Nadirshah, Manasvi Sharma, Dr.Mandaar Nadkarni and of course family including Gia, Jashn and Tony Singh.
Dressed in a lime green outfit, with diamonds on the bandana, al la Daler Mehendi, Gunita Bajaj’s diamond chain, bracelet and ring shone alright, but they were a little match to the radiant face of ‘young’ Gunita Bajaj who was most excited at the celebrations.
Gunita Bajaj admits that “the chemotherapy did leave me sleepless due to its strength, but I am waiting for my cha cha cha session with doctor Mandaar Nadkarni. We have a dinner at the US Club next week.”
Laughs Tony Singh, “Mom used to take an hour to dress up before chemotherapy. If she didn’t the doctors would worry what was wrong with her. She is one braveheart.”
Deeya shared that her mom used to live in Colaba all by herself who is an astrologer as well as tarot card reader by profession. Six months ago, she moved in next to her in Andheri. And one day, she asked her if a self-test kit for cancer is available in market. Gunita’s enquiry shocked Deeya.
Tests revealed a large lump on her breast. Deeya told her that if Anurag Basu can beat cancer to direct superhits, why couldn’t she. The example seemed to work on mom.
Today excited to be the cynosure of all eyes, Gunita Bajaj loved cherished each moment of the party, stating, “I always get worried about TRPs.” Touche!
