DIFFERENT FLOWERS – Interview with Writer/Director Morgan Dameron

"Sometimes you find yourself in the middle of nowhere.

And sometimes, in the middle of nowhere, you find yourself."  From Different Flowers Website.

P.A. turned Writer Morgan Dameron makes a her feature film debut with the witty, honest and moving film Different Flowers.  Morgan chatted with me about making a movie with strong female presences, filming at home in Kansas, and yeah about her last name being apart of the Star Wars lexicon!  Enjoy my chat with Writer/Director Morgan Dameron.

On the day of her big Midwestern wedding, Millie (played by Emma Bell, The Walking Dead), a persnickety bride, jilts her fiance at the altar with the help of her spunky younger sister, Emma (played by Hope Lauren, Supergirl), and embarks on a life-changing adventure. Starring and produced by Emmy-winning actress Shelley Long, and first feature from writer and director Morgan Dameron, DIFFERENT FLOWERS is a love letter to the heartland. Filmed entirely on location in Dameron's hometown of Kansas City, DIFFERENT FLOWERS is about learning to follow your heart.

Interview with MORGAN DAMERON.

In our chat Morgan and I talked at length about getting to film back home in Kansas City.  She was able to have her family be a major part of her first feature production.  Her and the film's Cinematographer Jordan McNeile showcased and highlighted the vastness of the location as well as tapped into the area's beauty.  This mirrors the two talented actresses beauty and wide range.   The ladies carry us along moving journey.  Add in a stoic and lovable performance from Shelley Long and the film truly has enough emotional backing to be impactful to anyone.  I was amazed at how much I connected to these two lead actresses and their run-away odyssey.  Dameron's sense of humor is also a major part of the enjoyability of Different Flowers.  Whether it's her crisp dialog or the naughty sayings that are sewn across Millie and Emma's t-shirts throughout the film.  You've seen the story plot line before, but not necessarily from such a witty and youthful writer.  Dameron was kind enough to talk about casting, editing, and so much of the film process in our 20 minute chat.  But I hope you'll also enjoy Morgan's openness to chatting about making a strong female lead film and about being apart of BAD ROBOT!  Enjoy my chat with DIFFERENT FLOWERS Writer/Director Morgan Dameron.
