Recently, I had a chance to sit down with supporting actor, Adam Pally, from the new comedy, "Dirty Grandpa", and not only did we talk about the film, but I also got to experience Adam's brand of humor firsthand. Check out the video above for the full interview.
A week before marrying his boss's controlling daughter, Jason (Zac Efron) is tricked into driving his vulgar grandpa, Dick (Robert De Niro), to Florida for spring break. Now widowed and in his old age, Dick only wants to party and hunt for woman, while Jason is a nicely dressed, uptight guy who thinks he's got it all figured out. Between frat parties, getting into fights, karaoke, drinking, drugs, and chasing around two girls who are Jason's age, Dick and Jason experience what is probably the wildest ride of their lives in Daytona Beach, and in doing so, they both realize things about their lives they couldn't see before.
Actor and comedian, Adam Pally, plays cousin Nick, the over the top screw-up of the family. Pally is most widely known for his roles in the ABC series, "Happy Endings", as Max Blum, and as Dr. Peter Prentice in "The Mindy Project". Pally also spends a good amount of time doing improv and sketch comedy. He has performed at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre (NYC and LA) for sometime, is a member of the sketch comedy group, "Chubby Skinny Kids", and the improv group, "Hot Sauce". Pally is a regular contributor to the humor website "Funny or Die", and has also appeared in "Iron Man 3", "The To Do List", "Californication", "Kroll Show", "Comedy Bang! Bang!", "BoJack Horseman" and more.
As far as "Dirty Grandpa" goes, the better name would be "Dirty De Niro", as it shows Robert De Niro in rare form as a sex-crazed, foul-mouthed elderly grandfather who is on a mission to party. Everything De Niro says is vulgar, related to sex, or it's something offensive. The filmmakers apparently thought it would be funny to have a no-filter De Niro and a tense, sweater-wearing Efron together, but in the end its just over the top, cheap, dirty, and disgusting.
"Dirty Grandpa" also stars Aubrey Plaza, Zoey Deutch, Dermot Mulroney, Julianne Hough, Jason Mantzoukas, Adam Pally, Jake Picking and more. It is rated R for crude sexual content throughout, graphic nudity, and for language and drug use. Running time is 1 hour and 42 minutes.
