Well Go USA Entertainment announced today the hiring of Dylan Marchetti as Senior Vice President of Acquisitions and Theatrical Releasing. Marchetti will be the first staffer in Well Go’s New York City office, and his role is effective immediately. The announcement was made by Well Go USA’s President and CEO, Doris Pfardrescher.
In his role as SVP, Marchetti will oversee independent acquisitions for the company’s labels, as well as the release and marketing strategies for Well Go USA’s theatrical releases, reporting to Pfardrescher in Well Go USA’s Plano headquarters. Already the leading distributor of Asian content to fan, arthouse, and diaspora audiences, Marchetti will be tasked with expanding Well Go USA’s arthouse offerings on non-Asian films.
This cements a relationship that dates back to Well Go’s first theatrical release in 2010, the modern martial arts classic IP MAN, which was serviced by Marchetti’s former company Variance Films. Since then, Marchetti and Well Go have worked together on over twenty releases, most recently the acclaimed Hou Hsiao-Hsien wuxia THE ASSASSIN and blockbuster sequel IP MAN 3, which has grossed over $2.6 million theatrically to date and remains in theaters.
“For over six years now I’ve had the privilege of working closely with Well Go,” said Marchetti. “I’ve watched them do things their own way, and that way has turned out to be a very smart way. So when the possibility of joining the gang officially came up, I couldn’t resist,” he said.
“Their films, their energy, and their future plans for world domination are awesome…almost as awesome as their team. I know we’re going to rise to the challenges of a fast-changing marketplace, and can’t wait to get started,” Marchetti said.
"Though he's felt like a part of the Well Go family for years, we couldn't be happier to make him an official member of the team," said Doris Pfardrescher, President and CEO of Well Go USA Entertainment. "He's an incredibly smart and savvy film marketer, with an accomplished eye for finding and acquiring global and independent films," she said.
"With his talents on board, I'm even more excited to see what lies ahead as this division of the company rises to the next level," Pfardrescher said.
Most recently, Marchetti was Chief Creative Officer at Amplify, where Marchetti headed all operations, including running point on releases such as Rooster Teeth’s LAZER TEAM, the Zellner Bros.’ KUMIKO THE TREASURE HUNTER, Terry Gilliam’s THE ZERO THEOREM, and Xavier Dolan’s TOM AT THE FARM. Prior to that, as Founder and President at Variance Films, Marchetti spearheaded innovative theatrical releases and marketing campaigns for films such as Dave Grohl’s SOUND CITY, Spike Lee’s RED HOOK SUMMER, and John Sayles’ AMIGO and GO FOR SISTERS, as well as releasing debut features from emerging filmmakers such as Terence Nance, Eliza Hittman, and Damien Chazelle.
