One half of the Oscar-Nominated directing team of Julie Cohen and Betsy West talked with me about their latest masterwork, JULIA. Filmmaker Betsy West talked about tackling the life and times of Julia Child and all the incredible finds along the journey. Here is our chat with Betsy West.
JULIA brings to life the legendary cookbook author and television superstar who changed the way Americans think about food, television, and even about women. Using never-before-seen archival footage, personal photos, first-person narratives, and cutting-edge, mouth-watering food cinematography, the film traces Julia Child’s 12 year struggle to create and publish the revolutionary Mastering the Art of French Cooking (1961) which has sold more than 2.5 million copies to date, and her rapid ascent to become the country’s most unlikely television star. Betsy and I talked about the incredible team, mainly women, that was able to bring to life Julia’s incredible story. We discussed the many sides of Julia, the amazing unique untold elements of the famous chef, and even had time to talk about all the wonderful FOOD!
