LAAL SINGH CHADDHA – A Review by John Strange
This film is an Indian reimagining of the American film Forest Gump. The story of Laal Singh Chaddha hits the high points of its predecessor and gives us all of the love and humor we needed. He is an innocent growing up in a dangerous world. His Mummy takes good care of him.
Laal’s story follows Forest complete with the leg braces. And the story that follows is similar to Forest’s but modified to fit India’s history and way of life. And it works. I found the changes to be fun to watch, and interesting to boot. Laal’s mannerisms and quotes are reminiscent of his predecessor without being a blah carbon copy.
At two hours and thirty-nine minutes, Laal Singh Chaddha is only 17 minutes longer than Forest Gump. And the flow of the film is excellent! I am a one run to the restroom kind of critic, but I did not budge an inch while watching this film! This is a beautiful 5-star film. I think that you should not let having to read the film’s dialogue slow your trip to the theater one bit!
