LIFE & LIFE – Interview with Filmmaker NC Heikin

LIFE & LIFE, the latest documentary from NC Heikin, is playing tomorrow night at the NEW HOPE FILM FESTIVAL in Philadelphia.  NC Heikin talked with Selig Film News about the serendipitous story behind her latest doc, her film journey from Philly to France & beyond, and so much more!

Life & Life s a character-driven story that asks, “What is a just sentence?” Through Reggie Austin’s personal journey from drug addicted convicted murderer serving 35 years inside California prisons, to free man facing his tattered connections to society and family, the film exposes the impact on men of color of harsh sentencing and parole practices, as part of the larger story of mass incarceration. Combining breathtaking musical performances, rare vérité from inside San Quentin prison, and scenes of raw emotion adjusting to life outside, Reggie Austin’s story unfolds. Philosophically probing, the film opens up a range of pertinent issues for our time with grace and soul, through the immersive vehicle of music.

NC and I talked about her previous films, the connection directly to Sound of Redemption, and so much more.
