Tonight, June 13th SOUL DOCTOR will be in theaters via Fathom Events. The film’s Writer/Director Danny Wise, Executive Producer Lisa Simone and Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach’s daughter Dari held a press event last week to discuss the epic night and much more!
The movie musical, which was filmed live in Jerusalem, is a poignant and entertaining portrayal of how music and spirituality formed an unlikely friendship between rockstar Rabbi, Shlomo Carlebach and legendary singer and activist, Nina Simone. Together their music woke up the world and brought to light the common struggles of the black and Jewish communities that still continue today.
Danny, Lisa and Dari talked about the iconic friendship between Rabbi Carlebach and Nina Simone. The trio was able to talk about the legacy of the music, the movement and so much more. My question to the panel was about Nina Simone’s incredible fashion choices and that being reflected in both the stage and film versions of SOUL DOCTOR.
