STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI – A Review by Hollywood Hernandez

The most eagerly awaited movie of the year is finally here, Star Wars: The Last Jedi.  First, don't be confused by the title; this is NOT the last Star Wars sequel.  Another Star Wars movie is currently in production and will be released in 2019.  However, this sequel puts a nice "period" on the previous episodes and breathes new life into a series that had gotten to be a little bit stale.

In The Last Jedi, the Empire is trying to wipe out the rebels as they retreat from a major defeat and one of the new Jedi trainees, Rey (Daisy Ridley) is sent on a journey to a remote island to bring back the Jedi Master, Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill).  Luke is still torn by his perceived failures as a Jedi and is reluctant to leave the island or to offer any help to the resistance.  Instead he teaches the new young apprentice about the ways of the force and she develops her skills as a Jedi Knight.

The movie is a simple story of good against evil but along the way there are several story lines running at one time as the movie says good-bye to some characters (the movie is a real tribute to Carrie Fisher in her last acting role) and introduces new characters who will carry on with the Star Wars franchise series.  The new younger characters are all excellent and it looks like Star Wars will be around for many years to come.

The special effects, especially the space battles, are fantastic.  Star Wars fanatics are going to go crazy for this movie, but the casual movie-goer will enjoy it as well.  The Last Jedi is rated PG13 and is suitable for all ages.  It has a run time of 2 hours and 32 minutes. On my "Hollywood Popcorn Scale" Star Wars: The Last Jedi rates a JUMBO.
