Eight6Eighty6 Films and Blowback Productions have announced that CHICAGOLAND Director/Producer Marc Levin has signed on as an Executive Producer of THE STARCK CLUB, the Dallas-based documentary directed by Michael Cain and Miles Hargrove, and produced by Dennis Bishop; Wade Randolph Hampton and Melina McKinnon of M3 Films (winners of the 2006 Sundance Film Festival’s Special Jury Prize for TV JUNKIE, co-directed by Cain); and Guy Logan of Royal Studios.  Levin’s announcement precedes the film’s world premiere on April 12, 2014, at the closing night of the Dallas International Film Festival.

"I always believed the right nightclub could be a very special place where magic happens.  I just never thought it would be in Dallas. The Starck club changed that.  And now THE STARCK CLUB brings the famous Dallas club back to life as a microcosm of the 1980s. The music, fashion, politics, personalities, and drugs are all part of a mesmerizing mix," said Levin.  “The instant sell-out of the world premiere is indicative of the legendary lore that surrounded the club, and I am excited to take this film to a wider audience that will be swept up in its soundtrack, celebrity and dance music’s crucial yet innocent, symbiosis with a then-legal drug ecstasy.”

Five years in the making, THE STARCK CLUB portrays a seminal Dallas nightclub that embodied the overindulgent and glamorous 1980s. One of the birthplaces of the current EDM movement, STARCK raucously reveals rare archival footage from the original co-creators Blake Woodall and design futurist Philippe Starck. The duo had great visions for the club yet no one could foresee the impact it would have on world culture, most notably today's billion-dollar EDM industry. With revealing testimonials from Larry Hagman, Owen Wilson, Thomas Haden Church, music icons New Order, Devo, Book of Love, Seymour Stein, Talking Heads/Tom Tom Club, and pioneering DJs Paul Oakenfold, Frankie Bones, and Tommie Sunshine, the documentary shows why Starck was much more than just a club.

The soundtrack includes classic new wave, dance music and electronica from Depeche Mode, Book of Love, Art of Noise, The Ramones, Yaz, Pet Shop Boys, and the Sex Pistols, among others, interwoven with an original score by Starck Producer, Wade Randolph Hampton.

The STARCK PROJECT is a multi-faceted endeavor including The STARCK CLUB documentary, a narrative feature film, dramatic television series, web archive and soundtracks. ICM Partners represents Cain and will be handling the domestic rights for the doc.
