SXSW 2022 Interview with Filmmaker Alice Gu

Filmmaker Alice Gu has a lovely history with the SXSW Film Festival.  Her feature documentary, THE DONUT KING, won the special jury award for documentary from SXSW in 2020.  Alice was able to attend this year’s 2022 SXSW with the world premiere of her new feature doc, REALLY GOOD REJECTS.  The amazing music doc about luthier Reuben Cox was one of the highlights from the festival.  Alice and I talked about her films, her cinematography background and much more!

Los Angeles luthier, Reuben Cox, channels his inner instinct and artistic intuition in creating unique, custom guitars sought after by some of rock’s biggest and most respected artists. Featuring words of wisdom and pontification from musical legends like Jackson Browne, Carrie Brownstein, Aaron Dessner of The National, Jim James, Andrew Bird, Perfume Genius, among others, we talk songwriting, the human experience, and connecting with the human collective. Reuben’s guitars have been described as “Excalibur” for unlocking musicians’ creativity, enabling them to create music that connects with hearts and souls around the world.

Alice and I talked about the origins of getting to know Reuben Cox, the amazing talent highlighted in this doc, her vast experience as a cinematographer and much more.
