A weekend of documentaries that have made some big splashes on the festival circuit but have yet to have the public run they deserve. An all in one ticket will be available as well as walk up tickets.
About the films:
ECHOTONE – presented as part of the Texas Independent Film Network – this film examines the beginning of one of the world’s most celebrated festivals SXSW and the fallout of such an undertaking.
CIRCO – with beautiful cinematography and a sweeping score by CALEXICO this film follows the lives of a Mexican Circus family as they deal with the difficult times in a modern economy collapsing all around them.
BEAUTIFUL DARLING – This is a beautiful documentary on Candy Darling, The Life and Times of the Andy Warhol Superstar who falls for all of the trappings of fame with incredible grace.
MEMPHIS HEAT : The True Story of Memphis Wrasslin' is the definitive documentary about the history of Memphis wrestling from the 1950's with legendary battles between Sputnik Monroe and Billy Wicks, the 1960's with strutting Jackie Fargo, & the glory days of the '70s with Jerry "the King" Lawler, Tojo Yamamoto, "Superstar" Bill Dundee, & Jimmy Hart.
TRANSCENDANT MAN – The compelling documentary by director Barry Ptolemy, chronicles the life and controversial ideas of luminary Ray Kurzweil. For more than three decades Ray Kurzweil has been one of the most respected and provocative advocates of the role of technology in our future. Here he examines his theory of “the singularity” where people fuse with their technology among other terrifying and fascinating things like living forever.
MONOPOLY DOC “Under the Boardwalk” ** Shows how the classic board game has become a worldwide cultural phenomenon, and follows the colorful players who come together to compete for the coveted title of Monopoly World Champion.
**MONOPOLY will be shown along with a gaming tournament at the theater.
