A GATHERING 2013

Almost 200 performing artists are polishing their performances for Monday’s A Gathering 2013, a reflection on HIV/AIDS through music, dance and spoken word. The rare collaboration is a benefit event to raise funds for four local AIDS service organizations. One recent rehearsal in the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre included well-known performers Liz Mikel, Denise Lee, Patty Breckenridge and Gary Floyd, among others. The one-night-only event will be at 7 p.m. on Monday, October 7, 2013 at the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House in the Dallas Arts District.

“These are amazing artists, all local, coming together for A Gathering 2013,” said Charles Santos, Executive and Artistic Director of TITAS. “Based on what we’ve seen during rehearsals, it is going to be a night of spectacular performances!”

This event, involving some of the finest arts organizations in Dallas, is produced by TITAS and the AT&T Performing Arts Center. The cast includes more than 175 singers, dancers and actors. 100% of the proceeds will directly benefit four Dallas AIDS service organizations: AIDS Arms, AIDS Interfaith Network, AIDS Services of Dallas and Resource Center Dallas.

This event follows the success of the first A Gathering in 2011, which marked the devastating impact of AIDS on the arts community. It raised almost $40,000. It featured choreography from Bruce Wood, Ben Stevenson, Bree Hafen and Bridget L. Moore; and talent from TITAS, AT&T Performing Arts Center, Dallas Theater Center, The Dallas Opera, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Turtle Creek Chorale, Texas Ballet Theater, SMU’s Meadows School of the Arts, Bruce Wood Dance Company, Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, Dallas Black Dance Theatre and charlieuniformtango.

Tickets range from $12 to $150 and can be purchased online at www.attpac.org/gathering, by phone at 214-880-0202, in person at the AT&T Performing Arts Center Information Center, 2353 Flora Street (Monday through Sunday, 10 a.m. – 9 p.m.) or at the remote Box Office at Park Place Lexus Plano at 1025 Preston Road. All ticket proceeds are devoted to the beneficiaries.
