The Alamo Drafthouse and Amy Poehler's Smart Girls are pleased to announce special screenings of the classic film TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD at Alamo locations across the country this November.
The Alamo Drafthouse is known for being a movie lover's oasis, with its zero tolerance policy on cell phones, serving great food and drinks, and its combination of first-run movies and specialty programming. But Alamo also has a core value of giving back to the local community. Alamo does this by offering its venues for benefits and cause-related screenings, by donating movie passes to community groups, and by giving new filmmakers the chance to show their work to the public.
Films can bring books to life for young readers and the Alamo Drafthouse frequently hosts low-cost field trips for school groups. In November, Alamo is bringing Harper Lee's TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD to the big screen as part of its "Tough Ladies" themed programming.
TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD is being presented in partnership with Amy Poehler's Smart Girls, a rapidly expanding online network and community movement that inspires young women (and all of us) to change the world by being their authentic selves. Amy filmed a special introduction for the film that will run at all Alamo Drafthouse TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD screenings. We absolutely agree with Amy that "there is no bigger Smart Girl in the world than Scout". Through the character of Scout, we see our own struggles to speak up against racism and sexism, and we experience the pain and confusion that comes when you find out that grown-ups don't always do the right thing.
TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD encourages viewers to have tough conversations that are critically important in their communities. To foster that conversation, the Alamo Drafthouse is offering discounted screenings for school and community groups and a free discussion guide they can use after the film.
