Art Imitates Life in “Fair Market Value” Rom-Com Film

IndustryWorks Studios has recently acquired the worldwide rights to prolific Writer, Director and Producer Judy San Roman’s, (The Brawler, Rich Boy, Rich Girl) “Fair Market Value”, a romantic comedy lauded at the Bentonville Film Festival for bucking Hollywood norms.

The film stars a legendary, female-driven cast consisting of Julia Duffy (The Bob Newhart Show, Shameless), Debra Jo Rupp (That’s 70s Show), Wendy Makkena (Sister Act, NCIS), Olga Merediz (In the Heights) and Tina Benko (The Avengers), as well as introduces Argentinean sensation, actress and model, Luisana Lopilato (Casado con Hijos, Los Que Aman Odian).

“Inequality is a hot topic in Hollywood for a reason. I’m extremely passionate about promoting women in our industry and that’s why four of the leading ladies in the film are over the age of forty,” said Producer San Roman.  “As a proud member of this troop, I want to make sure we all feel good about wearing our badges! And if you haven’t yet earned the badge, you will want one after watching these fiery females! Comedy quells our propensity for judgement and conquers weighty issues with honesty.”

The film follows three successful women, who come together to sell a mansion all while navigating their terrible relationships. Through the chaos, they build a friendship. Kendall meets Michael, a swarmy real estate agent who is divorced with two kids, who just may be the man of her dreams or a total nightmare.

Meanwhile, Brooke finds herself dating Lucas, a 50-year-old aspiring hip hop manager that still lives at home with his parents. Between splitting her time with Lucas and trying to sell the mansion, it all proves to be troublesome.

“’Fair Market Value’ is loosely based on my unhinged life, but the theme is universal in that romance is timeless,” adds San Roman.  “The movie offers an updated fairy tale based on our current dating culture with its customary elements of wrong relationships and right times. I knew this was a story everyone could relate to at any given time.”

Lopilato shares “We all clowned around so much while making this movie, it didn’t even feel like acting. I play this go-getter real estate agent who swoops into town like a loveable tornado. I was a little nervous at first because it was my first English speaking film, but everyone made me feel immediately at home.”

Julia Duffy shares, “I got such a kick out of watching Wendy, Tina and Luisana work together. So different and all 3 had sharply defined characters from the get-go. Lu was a total pro, I would never have known she was nervous about her English! It was so fun to do scenes with the 3 of them, rather empowering in fact, to do these comedic scenes that had only women in them. It was also a blast from the past to work with Craig Bierko again, who always did his best to crack me up and ruin a take.”

The film also stars Craig Bierko (Cinderella Man, Suits), Rob Morgan (Mudbound, Daredevil), Drew Moerlein (South of Hell, The Wrong Path) and Gene Gabriel (Brittany Runs A Marathon, The Blacklist).

“I loved playing Steven. He’s the kind of fun off-the-wall character that comedy dreams are made of!” adds Gabriel.  “It’s a hilarious, romantic and well-crafted film anchored by the stellar performances of Luisana and brought to perfection by a fantastic cast!”

Moerlein adds, “The joy on set, and the creation of a film that makes you laugh and pulls your heartstrings at the same time has left an indelible memory. Luisana was an inspirational scene partner. She was so willing to take risks”.

“There’s lots of uncertainty in the world and that’s why romantic comedies are making quite the comeback as a film genre,” said San Roman.  “The goal is for audiences from any generation to walk into a theater or online platform, meet our characters and fall in love with this story.”

The film debuts  on UrbanflixTV.com, US and Canada markets with additional platforms coming this year.  It is one of three films created through San Roman’s production company, Reelhouse Productions, LLC.

San Roman discovered a passion for screenwriting and producing.  She soon founded Reelhouse Productions, which has produced award-winning shorts and independent features, including Project Greenlight’s Top 200 short film, “Mommy”, “In Sickness” and “Rich Girl Rich Boy”.  A celebrated Latina actress, producer, and director San Roman has won accolades at the 2016 NoHu Film Festival  and  named  Top 25 Women Changing the World by Conversations Magazine.
