AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR – A Review by Hollywood Hernandez

Avengers: Infinity War marks the 10th anniversary of The Marvel Comic Universe, which all began with Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man back in 2008.  This new "All-Star line-up" of includes almost every previous super hero from every previous Marvel Comics movie including Iron Man, Thor, The Hulk, Black Widow, Spiderman, The Guardians of the Galaxy, the new kid on the block, Black Panther and even a few new ones.  The movie is much like an NBA All-Star Game. It's big on star power but is has a little trouble with continuity.  However, even with multiple sub-plots going on at one time the movie, amazingly, holds together.  The movie has a sub-plot for every character in the film but even at 2 hours and 40 minutes long it only gets into half of the story.  There will most definitely be a "Part 2."

Without giving away any spoilers the main plot line involves Thanos, a giant purple overlord who we were first introduced to in Guardians of the Galaxy.  Thanos, played by the voice of James Brolin, travels the galaxy in search of the six "Infinity Stones", which would make him all powerful and allow him to carry out his mission of wiping out half of the inhabitants of the universe and, in his perverted plan, maintain the survival of mankind.  He is death and destruction riding roughshod on a biblical level.  The only thing standing between him and his twisted plan are The Avengers.

With around thirty Avengers, past and new, in this movie it makes it a bit hard to follow "who's who" and exactly what their background story is; unless you are a serious fan of the Marvel Universe and even then you may have trouble keeping up.

The CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) effects in this movie are stunning. It looks like all 10 years of innovations in the Marvel Universe were all used in this one film.  But, again, it's the plot in this movie that will leave you scratching your head.  While there are some exiting scenes that moved the crowd at the screening I attended (mainly in the key battle scene that brings in Black Panther and takes place in Wakanda), the ending of the movie was a huge disappointment.  However, the good far outweighs the bad in this movie.  It has plenty of humor with the interaction between the characters and, as you would expect, it has some great fight scenes.

It should be pretty obvious that I have some real mixed emotions about this film, but still I'm eager to see how it ends when the sequel comes out 2019.  You can expect a movie with plenty of fun and action if you go see Avengers: Infinity War, but be prepared to be disappointed by the end.  The movie is rated PG-13 for sci-fi violence and crude references and on my "Hollywood Popcorn Scale" I rate it a LARGE.
