Steve Rogers aka Captain America (Chris Evans) is getting a bit tired of cleaning up S.H.I.E.L.D.’s messes. When the captain is dropped with Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and a strike team to retake a covert S.H.I.E.L.D. ship, he discovers Natasha has secondary orders that he didn’t know about. Angry isn’t the word for it. He is furious with (yeah, here it comes) Nick Fury!
Shortly after the team returns from the mission, Fury is attacked and nearly killed before escaping the trap in a great combat sequence. He shows up at Steve’s apartment where he is mortally wounded setting off a series of events that will forever alter S.H.I.E.L.D.
One of the things I love about these films is the way they introduce new characters. The introduction and back story of Falcon aka Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) is as compelling. Then there is Steve’s neighbor, Kate (Emily VanCamp). I look forward to seeing both of these folks I future films! Additionally there is Robert Redford’s character, Alexander Pierce. This is a man whose allegiance to his beliefs is as rock solid and Mr.’ Redford’s performance.
The story of The Winter Soldier in the Captain America comics is one of the best story-arcs in the plethora of Marvel storylines. The action in this film, the caliber of the actors and their performances, and the special effects combine to give us the most compelling of any film in the series to date. This is a “must see” film!
