NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT!
Dallas Summer Musicals
It is July, 1927, in Long Island, New York. It is the era of Prohibition and bootleggers are hunted by the law and the religious zealots. Billie Bendix (Mariah MacFarlane) and her crew of bootleggers, Duke Mahoney (Aaron Fried) and Cookie McGee (Reed Campbell) are having trouble selling their wares.
Jimmy Winter (Alex Enterline) is celebrating the upcoming nuptials to Eileen Wintergreen (Stephanie Harter Gilmore), daughter of Senator Max Wintergreen (Benjamin Perez). This is Jimmy’s chance to marry the right sort of girl and make his mother proud of him.
A chance encounter between Billie and Jimmy results in Billie learning about Jimmy’s Long Island home that he never visits. This is the perfect place to hide the booze until they can find a buyer! The team moves the booze to the house only to have Jimmy show up as they are completing their stowage. It seems that the wedding is to take pace at the house!
What follows is a story told using the music George Gershwin and the words of his brother, Ira. This is a fun story, one full of wit and humor, love and scandal. I had a great time watching the story play out.
