Oh, Hi! is a very dark comedy that plays off every single person’s greatest fear, a cuckoo sex partner. The question is always, which one is not playing with a full deck of cards?
A couple has been together for a while. They take a trip to the country for a time by themselves. Following some discoveries at the rented house, their role-play goes off course when one of the folks proves to be a bit commitment-phobic.
What follows has just a little bit of a horror feel to me. How you respond to finding out that the feelings of your other half towards you aren’t what you thought they were can tell the world a lot about you. And them.
We are generally told we should not add ourselves into the reviews we write. However, our life experiences, good or bad, influence how we see the things in our lives, including the films we watch. This film was one of those films that invoked strong feelings in me.
Oh, Hi! was not what I expected. As the film moves along, there are too many spots where you want to cringe. The creepy neighbor isn’t all that creepy, and the script is tilted to give one sex laughs over the other. The sex scenes were well-written and acted, but too much of the nudity felt gratuitous. And the ending troubled me.
