I love documentaries, especially when their subject is American History! Rush: The American Revolution’s Indispensable Doctor tells the story of a doctor from the days of the American Revolution who stood up to be counted in the halls of state meetings, the Continental Congress, and the hospital tents with Washington and his troops near the battles against the British.
In this 60-minute documentary, Joseph Loconte, the writer and host, tells us the fascinating story of Dr. Benjamin Rush. The film doesn’t use actors to reenact Rush’s story; instead, it takes us to modern locations on fields and in meeting rooms where the battles were fought. Then we are taken to places where we can visit on our own to see some of these documents with our own eyes.
The best part of this story, for me, was learning about what the physician did beyond his duties of saving lives on the battlefield; he was also known for his innovations in the camps to keep disease down and in hospitals to make them safer as well.
