Son of God is the story of Jesus of Nazareth, from his humble birth to his death and resurrection.  Where this film differs from any previous telling is the inherent humanity we see in Jesus.  Even as he performs miracles, his warmth and humor shines through.

The politics of the time are explored as well.  In Jerusalem there are two levels of rule, political (the Romans) and ecumenical (the Jews).  After so many years of strife and bloodshed between the two groups there has finally come a barely stable truce, more a stalemate than peace.

This peace is threatened when Jesus and his flock of disciples and followers travel to Jerusalem for Passover.  What many people don’t realize is that the danger to Jesus was the leadership of the Jews who feared the wrath of the Romans should trouble erupt.   They could not believe the peaceful intent of the man, whom they considered to be a blasphemer.

Whether you believe in the story of Jesus Christ or not, this is a well made film.  It shows a human side to the man.  I recommend Son of God to everyone.
