DALLAS (November 23, 2010) – The Joule hotel, in partnership with Columbia Pictures and the Dallas Film Society, is set to stage Dallas’s first 3D projection onto the façade of a building. The Main Street interactive experience celebrates the film release of The Tourist (Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp). The Joule will project the movie’s trailer along with animation sequences and interactive applications onto the Praetorian Building, located across the street from The Joule, on Tuesday, November 30, and Friday, December 3.
This is the first-ever application of advanced digital mapping technology in downtown Dallas; through state-of-the-art light and architectural mapping, The Joule hotel will transform the downtown Dallas landscape, using 3D imagery to create a 4D experience onto the city’s first skyscraper. The City of Dallas has granted a special events permit to shut down Main Street from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. both evenings.
“The Joule is a unique luxury hotel committed to bringing cool experiences and a forward thinking culture to downtown Dallas. With this event, film and technology are fused in an exciting way in the heart of the city,” said Brendan Carlin, managing director of The Joule.
Using eight synthesized projectors, the software-driven effects will have the Praetorian Building crumbling to the ground and other such illusions, in addition to showing The Tourist trailer in high definition – a seven-minute, rolling presentation. Viewers may also interact with a life-sized touch-board wall screen for chances to win two nights at The Joule, Louis Vuitton luggage and passes to the advance screening of The Tourist. (The movie opens to the public December 10.)
“We are thrilled for Dallas to host such an important event for film. Our vision is to bring premieres and other first-look previews to the city. This is a big step in that direction!” said Tanya Foster, President & CEO of the Dallas Film Society.
Charlie Palmer at The Joule will serve a signature cocktail and the lobby bar will be open.
