YOUR PLACE OR MINE – A Review by Jenn Rohm

YOUR PLACE OR MINE – A Review by Jenn Rohm

Netflix has just released another Rom-Com in time for Valentine’s. Your Place or Mine starring Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher is now available for viewing.

Once upon a hook-up turned long-time friendship Debbie and Peter talk every day and have for the last 20 years. It started with a poker party that ended with Peter disappearing the morning after self-proclaiming that he is not good at dating. They have been through thick and thin with each other. They currently live on opposite coasts and live different lives. As can only happen in the movies, the two switch residences for a week. Peter comes back to California to watch her son, Jack (via her now ex-husband), and Debbie goes to New York to complete a course to further her career. While in the other’s home, they begin to realize they may not be as honest with one another as they thought they were. They also find out some truths about themselves along the way.

This was a delightful, fluffy rom-com movie. I appreciated that the cast and story fit being in their forties, showing romance isn’t just for the young. There were also some little pieces to pick up on that helped explain the characters and why they have made some of the life choices they made. For me having a good foundation of reality allows me to not fixate on the “that wouldn’t happen in real life” parts. And of course, the literary industry elements were right up my alley. When the movie was over, I was pleased with how the story played out. It was also a piece that did not leave me feeling lonely as some movies with romance elements can do.

If you have the time and would like to relax and enjoy a bit of fantasy, a bit of predictability, and a handful of reality this may be the film for you.
