Alamo Drafthouse Reunites The Class of 1984 in April

In the pages of Marvel Comics, Captain America was frozen in ice at the end of WWII and thawed out in the early days of the 1960s… meaning the time between the release of GHOSTBUSTERS and today is longer than the time Cap spend out of commission. You think he's a man out of time — how do you think the movies we're featuring this month feel?

The early '80s were a pretty great time to be a movie nerd, and the Alamo Drafthouse has already celebrated 1982 — the best summer for movies in my lifetime — and 1983, so paying homage to 1984 makes plenty of sense. This issue of BIRTH. MOVIES. DEATH is soaked in 1984 goodness, including a paean to PURPLE RAIN, a tour of the New York City of GHOSTBUSTERS, the reasoned argument for why BUCKAROO BANZAI is the single greatest cult movie of all time and a look at the production of FOOTLOOSE through the eyes of one of its stars. Internet sensation Film Crit Hulk brings his caps lock key to this issue, taking a loving look at what INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM gets so right (hint: it's a fun movie) and Hollywood's own Noah Segan examines the punk rock housing that birthed REPO MAN (Noah has some punk cred, having starred in a movie about seminal LA punk band The Germs).

But it's not just old stuff around here. I talked to Joe and Anthony Russo, the comedy directors who have been tasked with making CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER an honest to god conspiracy thriller. And just in case all of this was too racy for you, we have a thorough examination of penii in cinema, in honor of Drafthouse Films' girthy doc, THE FINAL MEMBER.
