Disney’s FROZEN at BROADWAY Dallas – Review by Gadi Elkon

Disney’s Frozen North American tour is now in Dallas through August 7th at Broadway Dallas’ Music Hall at Fair Park.  Here is my full review of the production.

FROZEN features the songs you know and love from the original Oscar®-winning film, plus an expanded score with a dozen new numbers by the film’s songwriters, Oscar winner Kristen Anderson-Lopez and EGOT winner Robert Lopez. Oscar winner Jennifer Lee (book), Tony and Olivier Award winner Michael Grandage (director), and Tony winner Rob Ashford (choreographer) round out the creative team that has won a cumulative 16 Tony Awards.

The story is familiar as are the characters and so why should you see the musical version of the beloved film?  It’s all in the musical design that makes this production so enjoyable.  The new song numbers help showcase the talented touring group.  The music is so pivotal and helps further the plot to interesting moments slightly different than the film version.  The new numbers alone are worth your time!

The backdrops to the various scenes in the production are all epic in scale.  To match the wonderful costuming, the stage backdrops are extra colorful and vibrant.  The transitions throughout this production really help bring the fluid nature that made the film so accessible.

The production I went to was packed full of young audience members.  This youthful presence at Music Hall is the much-needed feel for Broadway Dallas to thrive.  The decades history that has etched its way into our musical lexicon is given new light with the youthful attendees.  So, dress up in your best snowy attire and be transported back into the Disney world of Frozen.
