The Selig Polyscope Company lost a great friend over the weekend.  Film critic Gary Murray was killed over the weekend while covering the Dallas International Film Festival.  Gary was a film critic for our film site Selig Film News and BigFanBoy.com.  Gary was the type of person you loved the second you met him.  He was a true and genuine friend and really cared about how you were doing and feeling.  He was also an incredible film critic and old school journalist.  He knew his stuff.  You can talk to him about any film and he knew all of the ins and outs of the story line and production.  He started to write for Selig Film News in 2010.  He loved film so much he wrote for us and BigFanBoy.com.  He wanted to share his love of film with everyone who would listen.  We can all be at peace that dispite his health issues that his last week on earth was very happy time for him.  He covered the Dallas International Film Festival daily by seeing and reviewing films, interviewing on the red carpet and taking part in press junkets.

We want to thank everyone who have called and emailed us over the last few days.  Your love and support has been out of this world.  We would also like to thank Lee, James, John and the staff at the Dallas Film Society for their unselfish love and support that have shown us over the past few days.  You are special people to us and we thank you.

Dallas Film Society Statement:

The Dallas Film Society was shocked and saddened by the tragic passing of our friend and colleague, Gary Murray last night following the DFS Honors event.

Gary was a contributing reporter and film critic for Selig Polyscope who has covered the film festival for many years, including this year. He was a familiar face on the red carpet and was instrumental in bringing attention to our filmmakers and the Dallas Film Society mission. Several of our filmmakers had the pleasure of being interviewed by him and discussing their films with him – as many of us have for the past few years.

Our hearts and thoughts are with his friends and family at this time. Gary was a friend to many in the film world and a huge fan of DIFF. He was highly respected and loved by many and leaves behind a true passion for film.
