Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Elaine McMillion Sheldon talked with our Gadi Elkon about the visually-stunning and eye-opening documentary, KING COAL

The cultural roots of coal continue to permeate the rituals of daily life in Appalachia even as its economic power wanes. The journey of a coal miner’s daughter exploring the region’s dreams and myths, untangling the pain and beauty.

Emmy and Peabody Award-winning documentary filmmaker Elaine McMillion Sheldon broke down her motivations for this feature documentary.  She talked about making bold choices to transform her doc work into a creative adventure.  The journey that Elaine, her husband Curren, the people of her home state, and us as an audience go through in this film is worth your time and attention.
