RICK AND MORTY: SEASONS 1-5 – A Blu-ray/DVD and Digital HD Review by John Strange

RICK AND MORTY: SEASONS 1-5 – A Blu-ray/DVD and Digital HD Review by John Strange

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-raytm I reviewed in this Blog Post.  The opinions I share are my own.

For those of you who have read my reviews of seasons 1-4 and season 5, you know my views of this outrageous animated series.  The writers and artists, both those who draw the show and those who lend their voice-over talents are both first-rate.  As I said in a previous review, the proof of how much this series is appreciated can be seen in the list of Hollywood talent who have lent their voices to episodes.  Some of these include Keith David, Alan Tudyk, Keegan-Michael Key, Susan Sarandon, Claudia Black, Clancy Brown, Phil LaMarr, Sherri Shepherd, Dana Carvey, David Cross, Alfred Molina, and Matt Besser.

The series is one that can only find a home on cable.  Fox, for all of their animated series, could never touch this brand of humor… and vulgarity!  The jokes range from juvenile to frightening while the visuals may be more than the faint-at-heart can handle.

The list of bonus extras (as I said in the previous reviews) is the same as those presented with each season’s individual offerings.  They include the usual “Deleted scenes”, “Animatics”, and a varied group of extras tailored to each season.  Many of them were just okay but a few were excellent.

My favorite bonus featurettes from the five seasons included “B-Story Generator Vol. 1 and Vol. 2” and “Origins of Rick and Morty Part 1 & 2”.  “B-Story Generator Vol. 1 and Vol. 2” is a rather frightening look at how the creative team may be coming up with their story ideas.  “Origins of Rick and Morty Part 1 & 2” tells the story of how the creator’s show idea evolved into the Adult Swim series.

This is a great offering for the fans of the show.  You may have the individual seasons, but you won’t have the included poster, so this is a 4-star must-have.  For all of you out there who have never watched even one episode?  This is a 2-star mind-warping collection that you will probably run away from within a few minutes BUT you might also find yourself being sucked into the ranks of the fanatics.  Watch this offering at your own risk!
