SKETCH – A Review by John Strange

Amber Wyatt (Bianca Belle) is a bright young girl trying to come to terms with the loss of her mother.  In counselling, she was asked to illustrate her feelings by drawing them on her tablet.  Some of these sketches are pretty brutal; others are simply creepy.  They upset her classmates and, especially, her teachers.

In what might be considered a bizarre series of events, these sketches are brought to life and terrorize the town and the school bus the Wyatt children are on.

This film is a family story of healing that takes a strange direction.  The creatures are wildly imaginative and well-crafted.  The kid’s father, Taylor Wyatt (Tony Hale), his sister (and realtor) Liz (D’Arcy Carden), and his son Jack (Kue Lawrence), along with the troublesome kid from the bus, Bowman Lynch (Kalon Cox), join Amber to find a way to stop the sketch monsters and save everyone.

I love the imagination used in writing this screenplay.  The interactions between the kids are great, especially the discussions between Amber and Bowman, which are some of the funniest repartees I have watched recently.

Losing a mother and wife can shake up a family.  Some families can handle this sadness more easily than others.  Angel Studio’s new film, Sketch, is about the Wyatt family’s plight when they can’t face the loss of their wife and mother.  It is an eye-opening look into the mind of an unfortunate young girl trying to deal with life when her father and brother don’t seem to be feeling the same level of sadness.

I enjoyed the visual ride.  Sketch is a film that your children will get a kick out of watching.  You will have a wonderful time, as well.
