THE SPINE OF NIGHT Interview with Filmmakers Philip Gelatt and Morgan G. King

Animated fantasy thriller, THE SPINE OF NIGHT, held it’s World Premiere at SXSW 2021 last night.  The film is a uber violent throwback animation to the days of Ralph Bakshi and Frank Franzetta.  The Writer/Director duo of Philip Gelatt and Morgan Galen King chatted with Selig Film News about the film’s tremendous cast, the awesome death sequences and much more!

The film is set in a fantasy land ripe with magic and intrigue where a dark force is unleashed sending mankind into an age of ruin. It falls on heroes from different eras and cultures to fight back , and stars  Richard E. Grant (STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER, BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA), Lucy Lawless (ASH VS. EVIL DEAD, XENA: WARRIOR  PRINCESS ), Patton Oswalt  (THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS 2, PARKS AND RECREATION), Betty Gabriel (GET OUT, UPGRADE), and Joe Manganiello (JUSTICE LEAGUE, SPIDER-MAN), also featuring Abby Savage(ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK)and Larry Fessenden (THE DEAD DON’T DIE, DEPRAVED) and Rob McClure

The Spine of Night is a perfect jump back into death and mayhem for your late night viewing pleasures.  A real all-star cast brings to life Philip and Morgan’s dastardly violent world.  Betty Gabriel shines in her supporting role and there is plenty of variation in murder to make any Mortal Kombat fan jealous.  The animation is a nice throwback to Franzetta and Bakshi’s iconic work and with a rich story the film really takes you on a fulfilled journey.

Philip Gelatt and Morgan G. King took part in a Zoom chat with Selig Film News about the making of the animation, their favorite death scenes and about gathering such a tremendous cast.
